I have written and thought of a lot of Fanfiction, so I know how hard it can be for some people. So I'm going to give you some tips and reasons for writing Fanfics.
Reasons and Warnings
When people ask you why you are spending so much time writing fanfics that can never be published? You need some excuses (sorry I mean reasons because that sounds better).
Writing is writing
It gets you writing and in the end that's just overall good. It can be hard to convince yourself to get up and write and I totally get that, and if you're like me you love TV shows and movies and you just want to interact with the characters, and writing fanfics give you that option.
People will actually care
I have annoyed all my friends by talking about my WIPs, but when you're writing fanfics of a popular show, movie, or book. you can get people's interest. It seems like when a movie goes big people are ready for the next movie, or in this case book. Now you have beta readers and editors, and your friends won't be asleep when you talk about it.
It's way easier to come up with stories
If you're like me, you watch a movie and have a thousand ideas and plots for the next one. This is why people make fanfics, I find it way harder to come up with a main story idea and a whole world but in fanfics that part is already done. Now you can add on to the story and characters.
Warning: Fanfic can be additives
It can be really hard not to get carried away when writing a fanfic, and waste hours on them (*cough cough* Totally haven't done that before). But just because you can't publish them doesn't mean they're a total waste of time.
Tips
Here are a few tips on writing fanfics.
Add yourself
Totally optional but totally worth it. I usually add a character who's more like me in all of my fanfics or make an already existing character like me.
Share It
Since it can never be published I recommend you share it with a group. Depending on the book I either share it with a few close friends or sometimes I put it on my KP (Kingdom Pen) post. either way, sharing it is one of the best parts.
Have fun with it
Writing Fanfics is really just for fun. It's a good way to get all those ideas out and onto a page, but remember not to stress about it. Have fun with it change the story, add characters, or change the location of the book.
Thanks for reading!!
I hope you enjoyed this post, and remember to have fun with your writing!
Do you write Fanfics? If so what movie, show, or book is it based off?
This is a really good post! I love writing fan fiction! It helps remind me how much fun writing can be.
Sometimes in fan fiction I add myself, and then I add some of my friends as well (asking their permission first, of course). It makes it super fun! I used to write tons of fan fiction for The Wingfeather Saga (my favorite book series of all time), which was awesome.
Anyway, thanks for this post! I don't think enough blogs cover this topic. 😉
