Writing a story plot isn't easy but here is my step-by-step process. Note I am not a professional writer and I don't have anything published. So my process might not be perfect but very few are.
So this is how I come up with a story.
Step #1: Picking a Genre
Step #2: Making Characters
Step #3: Make an Outline
Step #1: Picking the Genre
All stories have a genre. Like fantasy or romance, choosing the genre should be the first step.
if you have a genre you can base your characters on that. It's important to pick a genre that you know and are comfortable with. For instants I love romance but thriller isn't really my thing. The genre you pick makes the foundation of the story.
Step #2: Making Characters
Now I have done a whole post on this; so if this step is hard for you go and look at it.
Characters show the lesson. They have flaws and weaknesses. Usually, their mistake or achievement is what the story is about. Remember a perfect character is not a relatable Character. Also, think about their purpose; is what they do vital to the story? All Characters should have a reason to be in the book.
Step #3: Make an Outline
Whether in your head or on a page the outline makes the story. if you don't know how to make an outline then I will be posting a tutorial soon.☺️
Outlines make sure you know what you're writing and why you're writing it. Usually, a story revolves around someone getting to point A to point B whether it's spiritually or physically. The outline shows that, and the challenges they face along the way.
I hope some of these were helpful, and remember writing is supposed to be fun.
Really good post! I often pick out a genre before I start writing, and then once I start writing, my story becomes an odd mix of a bunch of different genres, which makes a whole new genre altogether. So it's fun. 😂
