It can be hard sometimes to write or come up with characters, but these are a few tips to come up with a good story character.
1. Think about the purpose.
If you have ever read or listened to an interview with a writer you might have heard the question "what do you want people to take out of your book?" It's important to ask yourself that before you start writing. then you can make a character and story that show the lesson clearly.
2. Think about the end goal.
what do you want your character to do? if it's falling in love then make sure the character is appropriately aged. if it's finding Christ ask yourself "What was he or she like before Christ?".
3. Pick a good name.
Names are really important. Have you ever looked up what your name means? All names have meanings and some of them will fit perfectly with the character. For instance in the book I just started the main character is named Christina which means follower of Christ. she isn't a Christian intel the end of the book but it works well because her name is almost like a sign.
4. Think about their struggles
Everybody struggles to think about how they might react while their struggling will help your writing. Think about your own struggles and what you're going thru. think about your reaction during hard times.
5. Make a relatable character
people have emotions and showing that in your books is important. What are their flaws and weaknesses? What are they good at? What is their best quality? a character who's perfect isn't relatable.
I hope some of these helped you. writing good characters can be hard, but don't give up.
Great tips! Thinking about a purpose for each character is SUPER important! In Identity I had to cut a couple of characters because they had no purpose and they were just making the story more boring.
